Blood Tests & Investigations

blood-test-samples-blood-pressure-monitor.jpg

Investigations such as blood tests, ECGs, 24 hour blood pressure monitors and spirometry are led by our nursing team.

Blood tests must be ordered by a GP or consultant.

Make an appointment with your GP to discuss your options.

It is the patient’s responsibility to ensure they have received their results. Please note that test results take
time to be processed. Below are the estimated waiting times:

  • Blood Tests – 3+ weeks

  • Radiology Results (X-rays/Scans) – 1+ week

  • 24-Hour BP Monitor Results – 1+ week

Your GP may contact you via text once all your blood results are back, or you may be asked to book an appointment to discuss them.
If you are awaiting results from a recent blood test, 24-hour blood pressure monitor, or imaging procedure ordered by your GP, please ensure you follow up with the surgery.

Before leaving the surgery today, please make sure you understand the process for receiving your results.

Release of Blood Test Results

At Lakelands Medical Practice, all test results must be reviewed by a doctor before being released to ensure accurate interpretation and appropriate follow-up. In many cases, patients will be asked to attend an appointment with a GP to discuss their
results in person. A consultation is required when results need explanation, involve a change in medication, or could lead to harm or misunderstanding if provided without context. Once reviewed, results are shared securely and confidentially. Under GDPR, patients have the right to access their personal data, including test results, which will be provided within one month of a valid written request. All requests must be made in writing, and patients may be asked to verify their identity.

Blood Tests Requested by Private Clinics
Lakelands Medical Practice may facilitate blood tests requested by private consultants and clinics; however, this is at the discretion of the GP. When bloods are taken in the surgery, the GP assumes full clinical responsibility, including interpreting results, following up on abnormal findings, and arranging any necessary care. GPs are not obligated to carry out tests that are not clinically indicated or fall outside the scope of routine general practice. A fee applies for tests requested by private clinics, and all charges must be paid in
advance. Receipts can be provided for private insurance claims. Patients have the option to attend the private clinic directly for testing, use a private hospital phlebotomy service, or have the private provider arrange testing independently.

Thank you for your cooperation.
